So this week on FRF, I’m posting early and posting an oldie that I never thought to recommend to all you lovelies before. I feel so bad . .  because I’ve been finding all these lovely new fics ( and brainstorming my own) and this one was one of my favorites that used to distract me from when I was supposed to be studying last semester. LOL . Anywho, I won’t babble too much this week.

Reason I read & recommend it: Once upon a time, there was a girl named De (me) who had the crazy love jones for a sparkly tortured vampire named Edward. The only way this girl could get her fix from said sparkly one, was to discover the marvelousness that was to find EZRocksAngel’s wonderful story. So upon reading this story I discovered a wonderfully different Bella from the books & by now you all know I love that. Edward’s character is amazing and I give kudos the EZ for all the wonderful details that she added to his character to make girls such as myself swoon over him even more. The beginning of the story may throw you for a loop, but that loop is worth going for . . . I was always eager to see what Edward would say to Bella that day or what Bella would do in regards to Edward.

Overall, the story most definitely keeps you wondering and for me that’s a great thing.

So if you love the sparkly one and have a sparkly unreachable itch that can only be scratched by said sparkly one. . . I advise you to read this story.

THURSDAY BOX OFFICE IS IN: New Moon takes in $9.2M, will pass Twilight today

What’s next? Of course, we’ll continue adding to the tally each day both domestically and internationally. But the big question is, what about next weekend? Rival studios have pretty much thrown in the towel and industry experts all agree that nothing will topple Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon from the box office just yet. Media analysts agree. How will Disney’s Old Dogs do battle with the werewolves? Will Warner Bros. Ninja Assassin fight off the vampires? Warner “should peel more than a few young males away from [New Moon's] largely female-driven fan frenzy,” writes Carl DiOrio in The Hollywood Reporter. However, DiOrio notes that “many students and adults will have Friday off, and many young girls are already heading back to the theater for repeat viewings” of New Moon.

Look for another #1 showing at the box office, with predictions of $60M being about average among analysts. Will they be proven wrong again?

UPDATE 1:00 PM FRIDAY 11/26:

Thursday’s box office estimates are in. The Twilight Saga: New Moon took in another $9.2M from 4042 locations with a per screen average of $2286 to kick off the four-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend. This increases the film’s domestic total to $188.2M through its first seven days of release. The current worldwide total is $320.3M. There have been no new international numbers all week so the actual total should be much higher when Summit releases updated figures this Sunday.

With just a few million to go to reach Twilight’s total domestic box office take of $192,769,854, after today’s numbers come in New Moon will have made more in eight days than Twilight did in its entire 147-day run from November 21, 2008 to April 2, 2009. Although the film was toppled from first place on Thursday by Warner Bros.’ football-themed The Blind Side with $9.5M, New Moon is expected to take the weekend.

UPDATE 3:00 PM THURSDAY 11/26:

Wednesday’s box office estimates are in. The Twilight Saga: New Moon took in another $14.3M from 4024 locations with a per screen average of $3,554. This increases the film’s domestic total to $179M. The current worldwide total is $311.1M.

On a balmy autumn day in Vancouver, Canada, a young man is longing for a walk outside in the sunshine, and deciding against it.

 

Far easier for him to stay in his hotel room, cocooned in five-star luxury, with a cellphone that has run out of charge, safe at least from the girls chanting his name outside.

Robert Pattinson, 23, from Barnes in southwest London, ought still to be one of Hollywood’s beautiful dreamers, moving up the ranks of movie acting, enjoying his American adventure, his guitar, his good looks. Instead he lives in danger of being trampled in a stampede of teen love. He plays the vampire Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga, the biggest books-to-screen phenomenon since Harry Potter – in which, by the way, Pattinson was Cedric Diggory, heroic golden boy and victim of Voldemort. Boy, his life has changed since Hogwarts.

In Canada, he is shooting Eclipse, the third of Stephenie Meyer’s quartet of novels. The second, New Moon, was released this month in a publicity extravaganza that involved shutting down New York’s Times Square. The last time the actor was there, the square was also closed to traffic, for an event only marginally more fascinating to the world: the election victory of Barack Obama. We talk on the phone. Even now, a year afterTwilight’s release, Pattinson sounds utterly stunned by the hysteria swirling around him.

“It’s been a little frightening,” he laughs, a sort of embarrassed chuckle, the sound of someone negotiating the best bit of luck they have ever had, not wanting to sound blasé or overexcited. “In England, no one had heard of the series when I went for the audition, so it has been a total, utter surprise. The change to my everyday life is so extreme. Before this, I was used to working 10 days a year. Originally, I did a three-picture deal, but I wasn’t even really thinking about that . I had no idea I’d still be working on it now.”

Does the poor boy, who still calls London home, feel he has to hide? “I tend to stay in the hotel because where I’m staying is publicised all the time. There’s always a bunch of people outside. I can’t really be in Los Angeles now at all. It’s not that the fans are threatening, but the paparazzi follow me all night.” This hounding can evoke an absurd sympathy, considering the kid’s fortune and prospects. But then he brightens, telling me he was buying a guitar the other day and had to spell his name 12 times, and the guy still didn’t twig. “I loved that.”

When he read the first script, he had no idea how to play it. “I thought Bella, the heroine, would be a damsel in distress and I’d have to be the alpha-male hero type, so I thought I was never going to get it. But then they cast Kristen Stewart and she’s not really like that, so I realised there was a different way to play Edward, to show his vulnerability.” Could he get trapped and find it hard to move on to different sorts of roles?

“It worries me, because the whole Twilight thing keeps getting bigger and bigger, and now it’s so big, even my own ego can’t cope with it. A certain amount of success you can mentally deal with, but there’s a point where you think: ‘Jesus Christ, what is this? I’m not that great!’ I just wanted to make an American film, and I wanted it to be relatively good and to be good in it. I have never pushed to do anything . As soon as you start going to the gym every day and try to look like a movie star, you’re going down a worrisome track.” He laughs. “Being an English guy, you get a lot more breaks. You’re allowed to look a little worse. It’s that thing about English teeth.”

To say New Moon is eagerly awaited is like saying the Pope could use a miracle. Moreover, it promises to be twice as hormonally charged as Twilight, since it offers two poster boys for the price of one.

Is Pattinson embarrassed to have millions of girls in love with him? “The only time it’s embarrassing is when you do a photo shoot and people try to force you to look clean-cut,” he says. “When they use pictures where you’re smiling sweetly and having your hair brushed, because that’s not what you want to be known for. I don’t really know why the girls love the movie so much. The series has become a bit of a cult. People like being part of the club. They’re obsessed.”

“Rathbone describes Dread as a Kinsey-esque study of fear. “It has those base elements: What are you afraid of? Why are those urban legends urban legends? Why are they told over and over again? Because, those ideas are scary. There have been many documented cases of a complete stranger murdering many people and getting away with it and no one ever knowing why. It’s very rare that you’ll find a film or a piece of literature that delves into the mind of someone that’s been affected by that and what they do to get over it. We all have something in our lives that causes that dread, that inspired it and that’s kind of what we’re trying to get to the root of in this film. Barker’s story did it with such lyrical prose. It’s just beautiful and the imagery is haunting, it really is. We filmed scenes that just made a lot of people sick. Not just because of the gruesome element, but the idea of those situations where you’re like, ‘Yeah, if I was in that situation what would I do?’ And you know what you do a lot of times and you just wouldn’t ever want to think about it.”

“Q: What did you enjoy most about your character, Natalie?

Anna: I love that she’s unapologetically ambitious. I don’t have that and I wouldn’t really want that for myself, but I admire it so much, in her. I love that she’s independent and strong. I know that the audience really falls for her, after she completely melts down, and I love her even when she’s in her bratty mode. There was almost a desire for me to not show as much as Jason [Reitman] wanted me to show, and keep her protected and not give as much away because I feel protective of her and I wanted her to maintain her dignity. I love her, even when she’s a nightmare… I think she’s a control freak, and I think I’m a control freak, but we react to being out of our element in very different ways. I get more awkward and I fumble and things immediately fall apart. And, Natalie’s rigidity and self-awareness increases exponentially, when she feels out of control. She tries to cling to anything that she can control or keep orderly, whether it’s her hair or her computer. It makes for some very interesting comedy.”

(CNN) — If the chaste Bella and Edward lived in writer J.R. Ward’s world, they would have hit the sheets long ago.

Ward is the New York Times best-selling author of the popular erotic romance series “Black Dagger Brotherhood,” which follows the sexy adventures of a group of male vampires.

And while she applauds author Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” success, Ward is the first to say they aren’t vying for the same fans.

“I do not want minors reading my books,” Ward said.

“Stephenie Meyer, in writing those great books, got a whole new generation interested in vampires and further cemented this romantic myth around them,” Ward added. “A lot of her readers’ mothers have in turn found my books.”

Yearning for the undead may be all the rage now, but vampire romance novels are nothing new.

Ward is part of a group of writers who have flourished in a subgenre known as “paranormal romances” where the love — and the sex — is often out of this world.

So are the profits. According to the Romance Writers of America, romance fiction generated $1.37 billion in sales in 2008.

Judy Scott, media manager for the romance writers group, said romance novels sell really well, especially during tough economic times. The desire for a bloodsucker isn’t that different from other love stories, she said.

“It’s a fairly traditional, forbidden romance story, with a twist,” Scott said. “The cool thing is that apparently vampires are always handsome and debonair, although they are dead.”

Sandy Coleman, publisher/senior editor of All About Romance, said fans of the vampire romance novels are like any other romance reader who enjoys the fantasy of the story.

“Definitely romances are an escape,” Coleman said. “There are some very, very good writers writing romance these days.”

Coleman said there is no longer a stigma about being a romance fan. Her site has been online for 11 years and has about 360,000 visitors a month, she said.

The site is often a place where intelligent women come to discuss their favorite romance novels, Coleman said.

“There’s nothing to be embarrassed about when it comes to reading romance anymore,” Coleman said.

Things weren’t quite like that when Laurell K. Hamilton got her start.

The author said she was rejected more than 200 times when she first tried to get her books published. Now, more than 20 years later, her “Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter” series is one of the best-selling in the genre.

“Everything now that is so hot, when I was trying to sell this, nobody wanted it,” said Hamilton, who is working on her 19th novel. “[Vampire novels] have never been as prominent in the media as they are now.”

Hamilton said she has gotten some crossover in fans of her books who have also read the “Twilight” series.

The author said that in polling those readers, she learned that regardless of their ages, they found similar appeal in Edward and Bella’s story.

“They loved that [Edward] waited on the sex and was content to do that,” Hamilton said. “Vampires have become the new Prince Charming.”

Hamilton, whose series features a strong, independent heroine, said she was a little blown away that women were still craving a white knight to sweep them off their feet.

“One twentysomething woman explained it to me like this,” Hamilton said. “She said ‘Well, I just got out of college and I can’t get a job, none of my friends can get jobs that will let us be able to move away from home, so if we can’t wait for Prince Charming to come rescue us what are we going to do?’ I thought that was interesting.”

That has gotten loyal readership for writers like Hamilton and Charlaine Harris, whose Sookie Stackhouse series was made into the wildly popular HBO series “True Blood.”

Heather Graham (not the actress) has written vampire novels under both her name and her pseudonym, Shannon Drake.

Graham said she enjoys the creativity that comes with creating romances with vampires as the main characters.

“There is total freedom,” said Graham. “The only rules are once you make any, you then have to stick to them.”

Graham, whose book “Dust to Dust” melds two frightening topics as vampires seek to save Earth from the 2012 end of the world prophecy, said life can be fraught with lots of anxiety.

Vampire romances are a good escape from that, she said.

“You get to have something sexy, something edgy and something that is scary, but outside the realm of our everyday scary,” Graham said.

Ward said women gravitate toward vampire heartthrobs because the vampires are “always in 3-D.”

“They are deadly, they are dangerous and they are desirable,” Ward said. “Big, bad, sexy and lethal, but redeemable is a great setup for a romantic hero.”

Suck on that, zombies!

Don’t you think that when some fans see New Moon, they may be disappointed, because you’re kind of the villain in a way.
I have some pretty passionate team Jacob fans [laughs].

Right. But you’re also the obstacle getting in the way of the great romance between Bella and Edward.
I can see where you’re coming from. The thing is, Jacob and Edward are two completely different guys. They are opposites. And it’s just what kind of girl you are. If you like that more mysterious, dangerous type, then that’s one guy. I personally love Jacob and Bella’s relationship, and how they began as friends. They are so much more open, and can tell each other anything. And Bella and Edward’s relationship, it’s always tense. It’s always serious. But Jacob and Bella’s friendship starts growing stronger and stronger and you just wonder if they can go past friends. It looks like that at some points.

But when your character hangs up on Edward in New Moon, it sets off the whole chain of events that almost lead to a major tragedy. That’s something a villain would do.
Yes. that is part of Jacob’s character. He can’t really control himself. When he gets mad, he gets mad. And all Jacob has on his mind is on Bella. That’s who he cares for. That’s who he loves. If somebody gets in his way, it’s not good. And he will explode. So I guess you could see that either way.

And then Bella is always lying to Edward so she can see you. This is supposed to be like true love forever, so why can’t she just be honest?
You know, she’s serious with Edward and then she meets best friend Jacob. She gets confused.

But you’re not really her friend. You have an agenda with her, and you’re always making snide comments about Edward.
If I was Jacob, and I feel like I have lived as him, it gets so annoying. Because she’s in the car with you one moment, about ready to kiss you and then she leaves and is with Edward. And then she’s back with you, you know.

Then she even says she loves you.
That’s why Eclipse was actually my favorite of the series. It’s the height of the love triangle. I think it’s going to be good. That tent scene is the biggest thing possible. She’s cold and I’m hot, so [since vampires are cold], are you going to let me crawl in the sleeping bag with her, or are you just going to let her die?

That’s what I mean. Why don’t you be like, “You guys stay there. I will get you an extra blanket so you can stay warm?” Or, “I’ll turn into a wolf and go skin some animals and make you a blanket.”
No, no, no. Oh my.

That said, I understand the book’s appeal: it’s a great fantasy for someone to have two powerful good-looking guys who can have anybody fighting over her. It’s a classic romance, with fangs and fur heightening it.
Definitely. And I admit proudly that I enjoyed the series. I was not a book reader at all. But then when I read them, they hook you. I feel like each book, and more so the movies, are just getting more exciting and better and better. With New Moon, you know, it’s not just the love story between these two anymore. Now there are three people, and it’s dangerous.

But when you’re reading the book, aren’t you sometimes thinking, “Come on, when is there going to be some action?”
It’s a tease.

Why do you think Jacob and Edward likes Bella so much?
Because she’s different, meaning she’s more of the plain Jane type. You know, she’s not fake. I know that attracts me too. Just somebody who is down to earth and themselves. I mean, apparently Edward likes her smell. But Jacob’s relationship with her is — Jacob has just always liked her. They used to be friends because their fathers are best friends. And he’s just always had a crush on her since he was a kid. Now they are getting to that stage where things can start

What do you think of the whole part about Jacob’s “brother” imprinting on a two-year-old and falling in love with her, then keeping her around until she’s of proper age? Isn’t that a little weird?
Yeah, yeah. Let’s not go there.
