Alex Meraz . . . Need I Say More?

So we here at ANET are definitely Team Paul . . . just take a look at Alex Meraz; there shouldn’t be any questions as to why.

Alex Meraz

It took one New Moon casting announcement to bring Alex Meraz from obscurity into the thick of Twilight mania. Out of all the wolf pack cast introduced, Meraz has clearly captured the public imagination with his shirtless photos and his piercing eyes. But who is Alex Meraz? We asked his mentor and friend, actor Raoul Trujillo, to give us a breakdown.

HE’S, UM, PRETTY HOT (OKAY, THAT WAS OUR POINT): “The camera loves him,” agrees Trujillo. “Everywhere we go people are always saying, ‘Good God, who is your friend.'”

“This is only going to be scarier now.”

HE’S GONE FROM ‘NEW WORLD’ TO ‘NEW MOON’: Meraz’s first big film was New World as one of the Powhatan core warriors. “That’s kind of where he got the bug,” says fellow New World cast member Trujillo. “It was an incredible experience.”

Meraz was in the running, but was turned down for Apocalypto: “Mel felt he didn’t look Mayan enough, which was silly.” says Trujillo who was cast. “I don’t look Mayan either, but they put a prosthetic nose on me and I looked plenty Mayan.”

HE’S A SERIOUS DANCER: Meraz came to Trujillo’s attention when another choreographer found him break-dancing on the streets in Phoenix, Arizona. Besides break-dancing he excels in indigenous and contemporary dancing. Meraz is “an inherent dancer” says Trujillo. who is also a choreographer.

Even Colin Farrell was impressed when Meraz busted some moves at the New World wrap party. Trujillo: “Colin was just sitting and watching cross-legged all ga-ga going, ‘Oh my god.’ “

HE CAN KICK SERIOUS VAMPIRE BUTT: Alex has studied mixed martial arts, winning numerous tournaments in karate and the martial art of Capoeira. “He’s a pretty lethal martial artist,” says Trujillo. “He can kick some serious ass.”

So who’d win: Alex or a vampire? “If it were going to be one of the Twilightvampires, I’d bet on Alex in a minute,” laughs Trujillo. “But in the end, you bet on the screenwriter. They say what’s going to happen.”

THE DUDE WORKS HARD: Nabbing the key role in Twilight was no fluke for the young actor. “If there’s anyone I have known in my life that deserves this, it’s Alex,” says Trujillo. “He’s worked his ass off in the time I have known him. He never lets up.”

Beyond staying in top physical shape, the actor-student works hard on honing his craft, including his New Moon audition. “Alex drove from Phoenix to my ranch in New Mexico on his birthday weekend so I could help him with his audition,” says Trujillo. “It’s about 8 hours each way. But he knew he needed to get this done.”

“He’s humble,” says Trujillo. “And he always showed that he was willing to listen and learn.”

Even with those essentials, it took a lot of work, luck and talent to break through.

New Moon happened to be there at the right time,” says Trujillo. “This is his first big break. And what a break to have. This whole thing is a phenomena.”

SORRY LADIES, HE’S MARRIED: Alex is madly in love with his Vietnamese-American wife Kim. They have a child named Somak (Trujillo is the god-parent). Kim was the one who was a true Twilight fan.

“His wife is the one who has read all of those books. And she’s the one who said look, you have to got to get into this. This is perfect for you. You’re the one.”

FINALLY, HE’S RIPPED: “I sometimes have to tell him, ‘I hate you, put your shirt on,’ ” says Trujillo.

“He’s slender anyways and he has a body that just is that way. He doesn’t even really work out because if he works out he gets huge. He’s got these shoulders on him. It’s from the martial arts and the break dancing. And he’s one of those genetically gifted guy.”

“They are going to have to get a trainer for everyone else on set or he is going to stand out like a sore thumb.”

Kristen Compares:’Twilight’ vs. ‘New Moon’

Vodpod videos no longer available.

“Adventureland” star Kristen Stewart dishes to The Dish Rag about how “New Moon” is different from “Twilight.”

“It’s a different movie, a lot happens,” says Stewart of the film in which her character, Bella, suffers the greatest loss of her teenage life: her intense vampire lover, Edward Cullen.

“She loses him, which is certainly a crazy concept for me to accept because that’s the basis for the entire first movie.”

“She grows up, quite a bit. She’s forced to, and she’s got strength and inner determination. A lot of people in her situation would be like, OK, done.”

Including all of Robert Pattinson‘s fans!

Stewart says that “New Moon” is more tragic than “Twilight,” not as “sunshine and roses.”

Perhaps we should make that moonlight and roses. Sunshine makes Edward go all sparkly.

Is it easier — or harder — to do the second film, as opposed to the first?

“The beginning is different. Preproduction is different,” Stewart says, thoughtfully. “I’m not trying to make something; it’s already there, just going back into it. Different. It’s just a continuation.”

And we definitely can’t wait for “New Moon” to continue.

Are you looking forward to seeing how Bella copes without Edward? And seeing how much Jacob (Taylor Lautner) takes care of her in her time of need?

Kristen & Taylor Filming First La Push Scenes

Courtesy of LaineyGossip:

Jacob & Bella . . . =D

Jacob & Bella . . . =D

These are exclusive on set photos of Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner as Bella and Jacob shooting scenes in what’s supposed to be La Push yesterday for New Moon.

As you can see, they’re both wearing wigs. Movie making magic! And I always thought her hair was that thick and lustrous! There’d been a lot of questions about whether or not Taylor could grow into the role. From the back, Taylor does look kinda man now. Kristen’s make up is great. Am all over the stain they use on her lips. Gorgeous.

Right now, filming has primarily involved these two with some wolf shots thrown in here and there. However, while Taylor/Jacob will feature prominently, right now there are several “Edward” dream sequences planned, just so the crazy fan moms don’t lose their sh-t over not enough Robert Pattinson. Whether or not those parts make it to the final cut is another story.

Jamie Campbell . . . Our Caius?

The 20-year-old – whose previous big screen credits include Rock N Rolla and Sweeney Todd – has revealed that he will play EdwardCullen‘s nemesis Caius, leader of the Volturi vampire gang, in the second instalment of the Twilightseries.

But, whilst he may be squaring off against Robert on screen, in reality Jamie feels he is no match for fellow Brit star Rob, who was elevated to superstar status by the first film.

He tells the BBC, “I doubt I’ll get the same sort of adulation as Robert – but it’s always nice when people recognise you for your work.”

When asked about how he prepared for the role, new kid on the block Jamie revealed: “I hadn’t read the books before.

“But it’s a great thing to be a part of, and it did very well last year.”

Ashley Greene Prepping To Be Alice

In the second instalment of theTwilight franchise, we’ll be seeing much more of Ashley’s character Alice Cullen as she grows closer to her ‘brother’ Edward’s (RobertPattinson) girlfriend Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart)

She explains to Entertainmentwise, “You see the relationship between Bella and Alice and the relationship between Edward and Alice strengthen as well.

“Compared to the first film it’s a much larger part for me, so yeah I’m excited.”

Ashley also reveals that there is a strong bond between the actors off screen as well as on, with the cast regularly participating in group hang-outs to take the edge off work.

She adds, “We work long, long days and then get off and go out to eat, or go shopping together, or play music. We all kind of became this close knit family.”

And as for other extracurricular activities, Ashley has plans to improve her strength and stamina in readiness for those action scenes.

She says, “They had us do this tap class before [Twilight] so that kind of jolted my memory.

“Before the second film I’m going to take some dance classes to get back into that. Alice is a thin girl so there was a lot of cardio.”

We obviously couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask about man-of-the-moment Robert Pattinson, but Ashley was remaining tight lipped on this one!

But she did assure us, “Oh you guys will see his beautiful face! (laughs)”

Well duh?!…

Taylor Accepts On Behalf “Twilight” At KCA

We have already told you that Robert Pattinson was unable to attend the Kids Choice Awards but Taylor Lautner made an appearance and accepted the award for Favorite: Twilight. Here is what went down.

Taylor Lautner (aka Jacob) accepted the Kids’ Choice Best Book award for “Twilight” from Hugh Jackman and Sandra Bullock, who both got slimed just as they announced the winner.

“This is awesome,” Taylor told the screaming crowd. “Thank you, guys.”

He added that “Twilight” creator/author Stephenie Meyer wished she could have been there and that they are shooting “New Moon” now and having a lot of fun.

“You guys are going to love it!”

And of course, every girl in the auditorium squealed and shrieked.

Mr. Pattinson Not at the Kids Choice Awards

While I am typing this with a sad heart because Mr. Pattinson was unable to attend the Kids Choice Awards, it was nice to see Taylor Lautner there and to see that Twilight won for Favorite Book. This is the scoop on why Robert Pattinson was unable to attend. Personally I think the slime  scared him away or maybe it was all the kids =/

Robert Pattinson is on the list to attend the Kids Choice Awards on Saturday. But according to the organizers, who talked to The Dish Rag this morning, Pattz Man will not be attending. Nor will he be doing a videotaped segment.

He’s busy on the set shooting “New Moon.” And probably being protected by Canadian Mounties.

Darn! Double darn!
